Outside of my geologic interests, I love to run, read fiction, play my saxophone, and listen to music. I specialize in super long distance (ultramarathon) running, and a good long run is how I prefer to start each day. I played the alto saxophone in both sit down and marching bands through high school and college, but now I play mostly by myself for fun. Like most other geologists, my ideal vacation is one spent all outdoors, either camping or thru-hiking a trail.
I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for undergraduate, where I spent four years playing in the band, and four years as a division one student athlete on the fencing team. I've got a double dose of team spirit for the heels!
I'm a huge metal/rock/punk fan. I go to a lot of very loud concerts, and my favorite way of listening to this music is via CD. I have a huge collection of 200+ discs and counting.
